About Shanmugam Manivannan
Shanmugam Manivannan is Chief Digital Officer at Equitas Small Finance Bank, Chennai. Manivannan took up the role in June 2026 after two years as Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Channels (Liabilities), has been with Equitas since 2016, the year the bank began operations, and has more than 22 years of experience in banking operations and digital channels.
At Equitas, Manivannan served as delivery lead for the bank's channel build-out at launch, covering the call centre, corporate and retail internet banking, mobile banking, ATMs and debit cards, and later led digital banking, neo-banking, transformation and channels. Programmes under this remit include digital savings and current account onboarding with video KYC, API-based partnerships with fintechs, the 'Banker on Wheels' service, video banking and chatbots for the website and WhatsApp.
Before Equitas, Manivannan spent five years at DBS Bank in Chennai as Senior Manager and Service Delivery Manager for contact centre, ATM, cards and internet banking operations, and was part of the team that set up DBS's digibank account in India.
