About Babu A., IAS
Babu A., IAS, is Chief Commissioner of State Taxes, Government of Andhra Pradesh, a position he has held since October 2024. A 2003-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre officer, he has more than two decades of experience in public administration, revenue administration, technology-enabled governance and policy implementation.
During his career, Babu has held several senior administrative positions, including Secretary, Agriculture Marketing & Cooperation Department; Managing Director, AP Dairy Development Cooperative Federation; Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation; Commissioner of Technical Education; and CEO of Aarogyasri Health Care Trust. He also completed a Master of Public Policy programme at the University of Oxford.
In his current role, he has been associated with the use of AI, machine learning, data analytics, and automation in GST administration. In August 2026, Andhra Pradesh presented its AI/ML-based GST administration model at the 6th National Co-ordination Meeting, covering automated analytical reports and a risk-based approach to case selection and scrutiny.
Babu's experience brings together public administration, revenue governance, digital transformation and emerging technology, particularly the use of data and AI to strengthen government processes and improve the efficiency of tax administration.
